The fort is mounted on the “Valley of Baltistan, Hunza” in Kareem-Abad village, that is no less than a castle in a fairy tales. It was built almost 650 years ago and renovated many time afterwards.
In sixteenth century, the local prince married to a Baltit princess who brought several Baltit architects of Baltistan to built and renovate the Castle. Then in 1945 Mir Hunza abandoned the fort and ascended the mountain to built another fort to reside. This caused the decay of the fort and finally the collapse of the mansion.
This is how the place was enlisted as UNESCO World Heritage Sites to be taken seriously cared about. Agha Khan Trust and Royal Geographical Society of London incorporated to rebuilt the fort and ended up in 1996. The fort was turned into a Museum which is now run by a Balti Trust.
It captivates your esthetics to see the sunset from its Hallways.
