Bala Hisar is a Persian phrase meant as a “taller fort”. This fort was built to resist the assailants to the subcontinent coming through Afghanistan in the West of Peshawar City. As it was built on a top of a hill, Temur Shah, the sultan to Durrani Empire named the castle as “Qila Bala Hissar”. The fort is 92ft above from the ground. Walls were built with the extensive red bricks. The total area covered by this twin-walled fort is approximately 15 acres with 10 acres of land inside the castle. The twisted road leads you to the inside of the fort.
Fort was rebuilt and renovated several times but the earth quack in 2005 badly harmed the structure of the fort. It was redeemed later, though.
The fort is under the custody of Frontiers Constabulary presently, who are seriously taking extreme measures to protect the relic.
You can find a different world inside the fort where there is an Army Museum with a display of the ancient weapons like older versions of guns, swords, and tanks used in defense operations held in KPK in the past. You will also find other heirlooms and antiques as jewelry and portraits, reflecting the culture of “Kelash Valley”. But you can’t visit the place without a special permit from the department of defenses.
